      Carol's Story

I am 57 years of age and have scleroderma and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.

Over the last three years I have tried various antibiotics. Some didn't agree with me and gave me more severe diarrhoea.

I started VSL#3 in March at a dosage of 2 sachets a day. VSL#3 allowed me to go without antibiotics for approximately 6 months before having to back on them again. I hope this won't be permanent. It has been three years since I had most of my large bowel removed and have had constant trouble with this bacterial overgrowth since. You can imagine how delighted I have been to get some relief and not have to take antibiotics.

      Daniel's Story

I have had my large intestine (colon) removed and a pouch constructed - sort of like an internal colostomy bag constructed by stretching my small intestine down to the rectum. I suffer from abdominal pain and need to reduce the number of bowel motions.

Over the last three years I have been on Flagyl (antibiotic) permanently, anti-inflammatory suppositories, several diets and several naturopathic liquids.

In July 2003 I started VSL#3 with 2 sachets daily. Within a fortnight my adbominal pain ceased (no waking during the night with pain), and my bowel motions decreased from 8 times a day to 4 (or maybe 5). I have since dropped my dose of VSL#3 to 1 sachet daily.

      VSL#3 has changed my life.

      Tish Stefanutto's Story

My name is Tish Stefanutto and I am an anaesthetist at Groote Schuur Hospital. I had chronic pouchitis for 9 months and was treated continuously with course after course of antibiotics to clear up my pain and diarrhoea. I then started taking VSL#3. 4 weeks after starting with VSL#3 there was a major improvement. My colleagues were amazed in the change in my health. I started to be able to eat normally and maintain a healthy weight. I feel like I did before I got sick. I have no pain and my energy levels are back at last. I have started training for the Robben Island swim which was unimaginable with pouchitis as I could never be certain of my state of health. It has basically given me a new lease on life.
